World's Top 10 Upcoming Skyscrapers

 

8 Spruce Street, the first skyscraper by the architect Frank Gehry, has taken out the Emporis Skyscraper Award for 2011. Also known as The Beekman or New York by Gehry, the 76-storey tower won over the jury with its undulating stainless steel facade.

The winners were chosen from over 220 skyscrapers completed in 2011, recognising buildings at least 100m in height that show outstanding architectural design and functionality. The 80-storey Al Hamra Tower in Kuwait City earned second place in ranking.

Three skyscrapers tied for fourth position. The 100-storey KK100 is the tallest building in Shenzhen, China.

Also in fourth position was the 34-storey Victoria Tower in Stockholm, Sweden. The facade is made of an irregular arrangement of metal-colored triangular panes of glass. It incorporates eight different types of glass distributed randomly over the surface so that no regular pattern can be detected.

The 41-storey Great American Tower in Cincinnati is topped with a 400-tonne tiara.

Coming in seventh was F&F Tower in Panama City. The building has 52 storeys, the upper 39 rotate around a central axis, giving it the appearance of a helix.

Eighth on the list was South Korea's Northeast Asia Trade Tower in Incheon With 68 storeys, it is the country's tallest building.

China's Tianjin Global Financial Centre took out the final position in the top 10. Double-decker elevators help visitors navigate 72 floors of the 336.9m tower.

Reflections at Keppel Bay, Singapore, was equal eighth. The complex of residential units is made up of six skyscrapers, ranging from 24 to 41 storeys, and 11 low-rise villa apartment blocks.
